In celebration of Black History Month this year, the Association of Part-Time Undergraduate Students (APUS) and Black Researcher’s Initiative to Empower (B.R.I.T.E) invite you to join us for a Taarab Online Concert. The online concert will be held in Zanzibar and will feature Cholo Ganun and his group, Rahat Zamaan Taarab Orchestra.
Zanzibari Taarab is a genre of sung Swahili poetry that dates to the 1880s. It is influenced by the musical traditions of the Bantu Great Lakes region, North Africa, the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent.
We will begin with a brief introduction, followed by an hour-long performance, and end with a Q&A session with Cholo Ganun.
